Elementalism

Elementalism was a magic system used in the Chaos Wars plot and Children of Eiyuu Kishi Den. This system is not canon or applicable in the current plot.

Elementalism deals with using the elements of Air, Water, Earth, and Fire, and a user is only attuned to one. Users manipulate the element directly, unlike shamans who use it through elemental spirits. The power is extremely rare in Lodoss. It's sometimes found in humans, almost always with Dragons and Dragon-Kin. Elementalism is nearly unheard of in fairy races (Elves, Centaurs and Grass-runners). If there are any individuals of these races with this power, it lays untapped since shamanism grants them the use of all elements through spirits. Some shamans have a special connection to an elemental spirit, this may be a sign of Elementalism. The Elemental Spirits themselves—Sylph, Undine, Salamander, Gnome—are elementalists, using their power to help shamans.

There are two kinds of human elementalism, draconic and true human elementalists. As the name suggests, the draconic elementalists have Dragon ancestry. For both types, the mage can only use one element, Air, Water, Earth, or Fire. Range of strength varies between the draconic elementalists, it all depends on the amount of Dragon ancestry they have. The more Dragon, the more powerful. They must be taught to use their power, or sometimes it will emerge during an intense situation, such as protecting a loved one. Before the power reveals itself, all the person will know is that they feel some sort of connection to the element.

True human elementalists are much rarer in Lodoss, the births of a true human elementalists of one element could be thousands of years apart. They have the potential to be extremely powerful. From birth they can use their element, which poses a danger to them and their parents. It is almost essential to have their power sealed until they are old enough to use it. Often this is done by an item of jewelry, the child has to be then taught to use their element when they are old enough to control it. True human elementalists can sense each other if they use the same element, most often, they are closely related; a parent or grandparent.

Earth

Earth elementalists have the ability to control soil, sand, rock, and other earthly elements. They can cause the earth to rise and move at their bidding. Use Earth to reinforce structures, or to disintegrate them by causing the stone to loose bonding.

True Human Elementalists: Known as Earthlords in the Chaos Land. They are called Geomancers in Lodoss.

Xion is an Earth Elementalist, yet neither human nor dragon. He is an elemental spirit.

Air

Air elementalists can control Air and gases. They can create a simple breeze, a binding flow of Air, and even bring storms. By controlling existing warm and cool air masses, they can create lightening.

Draconic Elementalists: Talen has the ability for Air Elementalism through his draconic ancestry. The only time he has touched his talent was when joined with three other dragon-kin. If trained, he could be moderately powerful.

True Human Elementalists: Known as Skymasters in the Chaos Land. Called Aeromancers in Lodoss.

Vesper is an Air Elementalist, yet neither human nor dragon. He is an elemental spirit.

     Water

Water elementalists can call upon Water and all liquids to do their bidding. Water can be used to bind, shield, erode, rinse and many other things.

True Human Elementalists: Known as Wavebenders in the Chaos Land. Called Hydromancers in Lodoss. Joline discovered her power while trying to protect her husband, however, it didn't do much good in the end. She is currently trying to train herself.

Nalentha is a Water Elementalist, yet neither human nor dragon. She is an Elemental Spirit.

     Fire

Fire elementalists have the power to control and create flame. They can use it to heat, burn, incinerate among other things. Fire takes damage from water and earth, for they can smother it. Air enhances Fire, after all, Fire feeds off oxygen.

Draconic Elementalists: Blaze is true dragon-kin and extremely powerful with his element. Other Dragon-kin with the element of Fire are Ariakan and Thorn.

True Human Elementalists: Known as Flameweavers in the Chaos Land. Called Pyromancers in Lodoss. Cray was the only one born in two thousand years. He uses other magic, but still sometimes uses his fire. His daughter, Arianna, will be as powerful. Her mother is a dark elf, yet she inherits Cray's Elementalism as well as shamanism.
