Profile: priestess_cyrla ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Cyrla Kaskelos Age: 53 Birth Year: NRC 473 Gender: Female Race: Human Homeland: Novice, Alania Physical Description: Cyrla has a grandmotherly appearance, short and just a little pudgy, with solid silver hair and a mature face. She used to be quite pretty when she was younger, and her dark eyes still retain some of that youthful spark. She has never bore a child and never will now, her life is devoted to Marfa. Because she is a priestess, she has aged well. She has very few wrinkles, and her cheeks are almost as smooth as a thirty-three year old's. Her hair is usually done up in a bun with bangs that hang on either side of her face. Clothing and Armor: Cyrla wears a long white white skirt that reaches the ground, covering her stout white slippers. For a little color, she wears a light blue top underneath a white wool sweater with sleeves that cover 3/4 of her arms. The sweater buttons up the front and is cut low, revealing the blue top beneath. On her brow, she wears the crescent circlet of Marfa. The crescent is about all of the circlet visible behind her bangs Weapon: Cyrla carries a plain wooden staff, much like a sorceror's, but not for magic use. The staff is straight and thick, sanded smooth and has gold bands inlaid around the top and base. It's main uses are to give her old bones something to lean on if she has to walk long distances (she still can walk a good ten miles before her age starts complaining) and defense. She is a good healer, knows many blessings, and is always eager to serve the Mother-Goddess. Cyrla greatest role, and her purpose as a priestess, is mainly the care of expectant mothers. She has delievered a good number of babies in her lifetime, and saved the lives of many of those babies and mothers as well. History: Cyrla was second born to a farmer, Yeiris, and his wife, Mailei, outside of the town of Novice, in Alania. She had a brother, Friedrik, who was already two years of age at the time. Her grandmother Ursala still lived, and the farm was flourishing, despite the fact only her parents were able to work. They had a small herd of milk cows, which were milked daily. Mailei and Ursala, while she was able, made butter to sell in town. They grew corn and wheat, which they sold in Novice as well. The wheat was ground to flour, and they combined theirs with other local farmers and sold it all in Novice, splitting the costs evenly. Yeiris had been inherited the farm from his father and his father had inherited it from his father who built the home and plotted the land when Novice was just a tiny village. Cyrla's grandfather had died many years before she was born, and even before Friedrik was born. Ursala survived her husband and stayed with her son, giving what help she could while she was still able, and lending a hand with her grandchildren. Three years after Cyrla's birth, Mailei bore another daughter, Imalin. When Imalin was three, grandma Ursala died. Cyrla grew to be 7 when the last child, Berwhin, was born. Friedrik was 9 and had been working in the fields with Yeiris, and Cyrla had been helping her mother milk the cows and make the butter since she was five. Mailei's pregnancy with Berwhin had been the same as all the others, but Berwhin decided to try and come the wrong way. His breech birth had somehow torn Mailei's uterine wall and caused a massive hemorage. Berwhin was pulled from his dead mother, nearly drowned in her blood. Yeiris and a midwife had been the ones to deliver Berwhin, as they had since grandma Ursala was too old and senile to do it, as she had been for Imalin. Friedrik remembered Cyrla's birth, and Cyrla remembered Imalin's. Little Imalin spent the night with her big brother and sister, listening to the screams and pants of their mother giving birth. Friedrik and Cyrla assured Imalin it was natural, and told her that Cyrla had been just as scared when Imalin herself was born. However, as the night wore on and no baby was crying yet, they grew worried. Then, they heard their mother's cries cease, and still no baby's cry. "Mailei!", they heard their father call several times, distressed. A short while later, all three children terrified for their mother's life, they heard the cry of a baby. It was nearly dawn by then, when their father came into Friedrik's bedroom where they were huddled, his face long and features sunken. He explained in a detached voice that Mailei had died in labor, but they had a new baby brother, and then he broke down in tears. Years passed, Cyrla took on the roles her mother had filled, teaching Imalin the knowledge Mailei should have taught her. Friedrik and Yeiris worked the fields, and sometimes the girls helped as well. Yeiris was very distant from Berwhin, as if he accused the boy for his wife's death. He knew that feeling that was wrong, that Berwhin had nothing to do with it, but the pain was still there whenever he looked at his youngest son. He taught him all he could, the same things he taught Friedrik, but could never be close to his youngest son. When Friedrik was seventeen, he married a pretty girl from Novice and they moved into the farm house together. Cyrla, fifteen, was entertaining thoughts of going to Tarba and joining the priesthood. Imalin was still just a girl, and Berwhin just a troubled and pained little boy. The next year, Cyrla did go to Tarba with her father's blessings. She started training and recieved correspondence from her family. Friedrik and his wife had a son, Imalin was looking up to her sister-in-law to take on the role as mother, Berwhin was growing violent and sullen. Just a year later, Berwhin was enrolled as a squire. Not to do the family proud, but more to just get him out of Yeiris's hair. Cyrla was eighteen when she was raised to full priestess, and came down to visit her family. Friedrik and his wife already had filled the house with babies and his wife Lilia had another child on the way. Two boys so far, and one girl. Lilia had a feeling the next child would be a girl as well. Imalin was taking on the role of aunt very happily. Yeiris was pleased, but starting to feel overwhelmed. Berwhin was away in Alania, training to be a knight. Cyrla took up residence in the local temple of Marfa, and was back home two months later to deliever Lilia's baby girl. They named the girl Mailei, after her grandmother. And thanks to Cyrla's magic, Lilia was back on her feet the next day. Yeiris only wished there had been a priestess at Berwhin's birth. Cyrla traveled around Alania several months after little Mailei's birth, and visited temples. She visited all the temples in Alania, returned home to see her family, then headed south for Kanon. Now she visited the temples through Kanon for a year, took up residence in a tiny village for another year, where she helped birth a good number of children for the local women. She saved the life of one woman who might have very likely ended up like her own mother were it not for her magic. And through all this time, she never had entertained the thought of her own children, though she could marry and have as many as she liked even as a priestess. Her life was devoted to Marfa. Perhaps one day, she would settle down and have a family of her own, but it certainly wasn't that day. When she was almost twenty, she returned home to Novice. Friedrik and Lilia had taken a break from babies after Mailei's birth, but now that break was over. Lilia was pregnant again. Cyrla promised to stay in Novice until she delivered that baby as well. During the wait, Imalin, now seventeen, had fallen in love with a handsome young man, the son of a farmer on the other side of town. Imalin married, and moved in with him, which freed up more room in the house for Friedrik and Lilia's children. It wouldn't be much longer until Imalin was having children of her own. Cyrla delievered another baby boy for her sister-in-law three months later, then left for Valis this time. She spent five years in Valis, then returned home when her father was ill. She healed him, and found Imalin had one daughter already, and another on the way. She stayed long enough to deliver that second child, another daughter, before going back to Valis. That was the last baby she delivered for her family. She took up residence in the Temple of Marfa in Roid and stayed there for thirteen years. At that time, the Marmo had invaded Kanon, and attacked the fortress Myce in Alania, which Cyrla learned her youngest brother was at. Berwhin had died in the battle, then Yeiris suffered the pain of the loss. Before Cyrla made it back, Yeiris had died of a heart attack. Cyrla mourned her father, then returned to the Main Temple at Tarba. She was given the order to tend to the wounded warriors of Kanon, Alania and Valis. Through the war, she healed soldiers and knights wounded in battle who were brough back to Roid, where she stayed. When it was over, she continued her travels again, this time visiting Flaim. She stayed at the grand Cathedral in Shuva for a time, then in the temple in Blade, Hilt, and even Haven. She spent five years in Flaim until the next war with the Marmo broke out. The Marmo invaded northwards and had advanced Novice, Zaxon and the capitol of Alania. The next correspondence she recieved frm her family was from Imalin. Her husband and Friedrik had died in the battle, while the women and children had escaped to Tarba. Most of their children were safe, but Lilia's second son had died when the burning roof of their house caved in. Imalin had lost her eldest daughter to the Marmo. She feared that her daughter was either dead, or taken as a slave. There was nothing Cyrla could do. When that war was finished, she moved on to Moss and stayed for three years, then went to Raiden and took up residence at the temple there. She has been there eight years now. Though the eldest priestess in residence, Mother Deasa was the already filling the role of High Priestess. Cyrla had no desire to constest her rank. Personality: Cyrla has a very maternal attitude, though she is a virgin and never had a child of her own. She cares greatly for expectant mothers and does everything in her power to protect their saftey. Alignment: Lawful Good
