She doesn't present any jewelery or other ornamentation, preferring to keep object maintainance to a minimum. Made especially for use against shapeshifters, it was purchased and hung on a leather collar sized for a fox to be used in the kidnapping attempt. Gettie is not aware that the tailsman will hold her in whatever form she dons it as, only that it trapped her as a fox during days. She loathes keeping it but considers it too dangerous to simply discard. Curse: Seven generations ago, the wife of Lord Duvia the Ninth, Lady Nina, broke off an affair she was having with a member of the mage's guild. The mage approached Lord Duvia IX to reveal the tryst in an attempt to embarrass Lady Nina. The mage's plan backfired when Lord Duvia IX informed him that Lady Nina had already confessed everything and, in turn, blackmail the mage with word of the affair and other unsavory secrets the Lady had extracted from the mage during their intimate moments. Enraged, the mage casts a powerful curse upon the entire family line. For their cunning and conniving, he declared that they shall be as they are and cursed them and all the children of their immediate line to be foxes from dusk to dawn. Shortly thereafter, the mage was killed in a laboratory fire, destroying all notes regarding the curse. Since then, all children of a direct female descendant have been so cursed. Those cursed typically don't sleep. Their human minds enter a dream-like state while in fox form and vice versa for their fox minds while in human form. As a result, sleep that brings proper dreams is incredibly frightening to them, lacking the comfortable stability and control of the other consciousness. It is their bodies and minds that change. Clothes fall off and any jewelry must be carefully considered lest they spend the night crippled by a constricting ring or choked by a collar when the morning comes. A few of the family have trained themselves to have both minds as one, reaping the benefits of each while being ruled by neither but such a feat takes years of discipline and beyond most of the family. Typically, they have about one third of whatever mind is not physically manifested. While in human form, they have one third the instincts and actions of a fox while as a fox, they have about one third of their conscious human mind. Their human form benefits from the fox aspect. As humans, they have exceptional senses and reflexes, nearly as refined as elves. Their sense of smell, in particular, is highly acute, scarcely diminished from their feral form. However, even in human form, they still have a faint musky odor. Notes on Abilities: Having a proper upbringing befitting minor lord's daughter, she has those knowledges and skills appropriate to one of her station. Literate in common tongue, she even knows a smattering of dwarvish, not enough to carry on a conversation but enough to be courteous, and a couple polite expressions in elvish. While not exceptional, her woodland skills are adequate for her needs. Not being a warrior, she is only marginally competent in those weapon arts becoming a lady such as dagger play and archery. Due to her curse, she it truely both fox and human, not one that turns into the other. As a consequence, even in human form, she seems one third fox. Her senses are exceptional, particularly her sense of smell and can even track by scent. While human, she still has much of her instincts, enabling her to have a better sense of what, where and where to go rather than simply crumpling in panic. As a fox, she retains a significant portion of her human mind giving her the advantages of rational thought and foresight as well as vague memories of the world of mankind. History: Daughter of a minor lord of Alania, Gettie was born into the family curse. It wasn't a bad curse as curses go, merely inconvenient and, over the several generations since they were cursed, measures were taken to insure their safety and security. Outside of a very small circle of entrusted retainers, the King and a scarce handful of highly respected members of the Mage's guild, the true reason why it is forbidden to hunt or kill foxes in the woods North of Alan is secret. She had a pleasant but understandably reserved and isolated upbringing punctuated by occasional, cautious, trips to Alan. She was, for all purposes, a completely unremarkable representative of the lower classes of Alanian nobility. Others were more aloof, more secretive, more extravagant, more humble... but for her family, it's good to go unnoticed. Shortly after the Darke descended, petty intrigue and power mongering lead to tragedy. A refused bribe lead to a confession extracted through torture. A plot to ruin the house of Mara involved a kidnapping; the kidnapping involved dealings with unsavory folk, the unsavory folk betrayed their contract and ran off with a caged fox wearing a collar with a silver pendant. The plot failed but the sole heir was missing. Herrick, a trusted retainer, followed the thieves to Raiden where they had arranged to sell the enchanted creature. In the streets under the gaping sky, Herrick dispatched the thieves and freed Gettie. Providing her with clothes, coin and information, they prepared to return to Alania only for their journey to be cut short as Herrick himself was murdered by an unknown elven accomplice of the thieves. The sky over Raiden turned to fire and than turned to rain. The elf abandoned his victim and ran off, leaving Gettie to grieve and find her way on her own. Personality: While she is a little shy, a little skittish, a little distant around unfamiliar people, she has long since gotten over the "why can't I have a life like the other kids?" She really does regard herself as both human and fox, not one that turns into the other. Once comfortable with a person, she blossoms into someone playful and caring with a sly wit and passionate manner. Having been sheltered for so much of her life, this is a fascinating time and something inside of her craves intimate connections with others. Not being confined to one form, her affections are not restricted by such petty issues either. Since her abduction, she is not longer as confident as she once was and is marveling at her new found humility and uncertainty regarding the world. Her class prejudices are quickly dissolving and she is no longer quite so certain that she wants to spend the remainder of her life in the safety of the manor. Her world has opened up. Alignment: Inherently Chaotic Good but presents as Lawful Neutral when propriety necessitates Quotes: "If, indeed... perhaps?"
