"No problem," Oscar said as he walked towards the directions to the café .The girl rather attractive, he wondered maybe dating someone that wasn't from high & mighty rich society was just what he needed. As they reached the café which was sort of short walk, he asked, "Would you like to sit outside or inside?" "Outside is fine," Nichole replied. "I'll be right back, I need to freshen up a bit," she said and gave Oscar a bright smile, showing her perfect teeth. Nichole slipped inside and made her way to the ladies room where she touched up her make-up a bit and rearranged her hair up into a ponytail. Her contacts were in her purse and she put those in and tucked her glasses away. With a final touch-up to her lip gloss, she smiled to herself in the mirror, happy to see she looked much more appealing. She turned with a bounce and went back outside and found Oscar. Oscar winked at her discreetly then the waitress brought them a menu, then ordered an apple cider and roast chicken sandwich with salad. He smiled, after all California was a land opportunity, maybe he might be lucky? Nichole gracefully took a seat and returned Oscar's wink with a smile. She only wished she'd dressed for the occasion. Nichole ordered a chicken salad and an Italian soda. As they were waiting for their order, she coyly rested her chin on the backs of her propped up hands. "So Oscar, what are you majoring in?" Oscar grinned, "I am majoring in Biology and Chemistry, both of my parents are biochemists, you?" He said as he relaxed back, totally comfortable in his ways as looked at this attractive girl named Nichole. "Wow, biochemists?" Nichole commented and took a sip of soda. "Well, I'm majoring in psychology, also I'm taking some courses in Theology just for the fun of it really." Nichole daintily ate her salad, and after a few bites, she continued. "So where are you from?" Oscar took a bite gently then answered after he finished chewing, "From Chicago, though my father's family is from Sweden and my mother is Korean and Chinese. You probably noticed some Asian features in my sister." Oscar then took another bite, "My sister, she was bullied when she was younger because..just because my mother is an Asian. It drove her to the state of near suicide when she entered senior years in high school." Oscar's own face went grim for a second then smoothed out again. "She isn't fond of people's company, so that's why she was quiet." Nichole, fork poised, raised her brows. His sister was suicidal. Sad stuff. She took another bite. "Ah, I see," Nichole replied. She wasn't very interested in talking about his sister. Oscar smiled, "Just in case you got offended, let's talk about more cheerful stuff, do you have hobbies? Or like particular a sport? Fashion? I hope you didn't get bored by me talking about my sister," he said as he took a bite of his salad, and looked at Nichole, searching with his vibrant blue eyes to see if she was bored. Nichole sipped on her soda. At least he dropped the subject of his sister. Oh, it didn't matter, he was hot after all. "Well, I like dancing," she replied. "I was a cheerleader in high school, and on the dance team. I think I'm going to try out for UCLA's squad when they start doing auditions." "Ah! I wish I was playing more active sports, I only do archery though not bad at it, it doesn't have cheerleaders cheering us on. Well I still wish you luck." Oscar took another bite. "Most think I am a nerd when I tell them I am a biochemistry student. I guess most science students are doomed to be nerds, or at least grouped as such." Oscar grinned and winked at her, then proceeded to poke at his salad. Nichole smiled. "Wow, archery? I would think cheerleaders would ruin your concentration," she said and giggled. "Haha...maybe. Probably end up shooting the arrows into the audience instead of the boards." Nichole ate a little more as she pondered. "You know, back in high school, nerds get teased and tormented. But you know what? Those tormentors usually end up miserable with their lives and the nerds go on to make a name for themselves and make millions." Nichole was starting to figure that out for herself. Oscar then had an idea, "Do you want to come out to dinner with me and my friends tonight? I can pick you up where ever you want to be picked up from." He looked at Nichole with his blue eyes, which once his sister said reminded her of a clear blue sky. The he finished his salad and drank a mouthful of of his drink. Nichole froze up and chewed her lip when he asked her to dinner. "I um...can't. I have to work nights," she said, focusing on her nearly finished lunch. She could feel her cheeks were hot and tried to avoid meeting his eyes. Please don't ask where, please don't ask where, she repeated in her mind as if she could somehow telepathically transmit the thought. Oscar's mouth drooped before putting it back in smile again. "It's alright... a lot of student work evenings and night. But is there a date or a night you get a day off? Or if you prefer lunch how about tomorrow, 2pm? I finish my classes then. I will take you out somewhere as a surprise." Oscar smiled at her, hoping to let her know that he wasn't offended or anything. A lot of students did a lot of jobs at night to pay for rent, food etc. It was nothing out of place. Nichole smiled at him, but that covered her thoughts. Thank god he doesn't know what sort of work I do. "I have Thursday night off," she replied. "But if you want to take me out to lunch tomorrow, that sounds just as good." Nichole smiled again, then finished off the last of her soda. "We'd better get back, I have a class in 30." Oscar grinned and winked at her. "Well then, wear something a bit formal because it will be worth the effort to dress up a bit. Trust me." He took out his wallet and paid for it with cash not his card. He only believed using credit cards for emergencies, not to show off. He gave a generous tip to the waiter and offered Nichole his arm. "Shall we go?" Nichole smiled, "Umm...ok, sounds good." After he paid, Nichole took his arm. She smiled and nodded in response and walked on with him. "So...what class do you have next?" Oscar chuckled, "I hope it doesn't sound boring to you but it's called Advanced Physiology II. Science folks aren't the most creative when it comes to naming things." He might look confident outside, but inside truly his heart was pounding. He met Nichole by sheer chance and it might turn out to be a sheer good chance. Nichole smiled. "Oh, I don't know much about it, but it sounds interesting. I'm taking French III next. I took it in high school, it's sort of a hobby, not a major or anything. I have French ancestry on my mother's side," Nichole explained as they walked back to school. Oscar smiled, "I am not that good in language. Maybe because I detested my German teacher so much I started this loathing for learning foreign language." Oscar paused then continued, "She was mean as you could get, not plain mean but very cleverly mean. She use to punish us like no other with writing out a hundred pages of official school German dictionaries and so on." Nichole waved her hand dismissively. "Eesh, that sucks," she said. "Well, they teach you differently in college. You get treated like the adult you are."
