A Village in Need

Terelyn and Smolgar arrived in the small village requesting defense help earlier than expected. Immediately, Terelyn went to the mayor and worked out a payment deal. All that was left was to wait. Terelyn hung out calmly at the town center, watching people go by. Magically intuned people would take strange notice of the shabby excuse for a woman. A man walked up to her, assuming her a whore immediately from her poor appearance and relaxed stance. He walked up to her with eyes ablaze, but before the man could speak, her boot landed in between his legs, dropping him like a stone. She yanked him up by his haired and faced him, angry. "Get going boy. Don't even think it."

Smolgar wasn't as fast as Terelyn, so he came in the moment after the guy appeared. Now that they were here, they would have a fine job. As he walked towards Terelyn he said, "So, where is our job? I can't wait to get a good income!"

Zaole sat cross legged under the eve of a nearby house, watching the crowds. Her journey had brought her this far from the east. In the desert, water was sacred, but here, there was so much she was beginning to hate the damp. Her cloak which stayed pure white in the desert was soiled to her shins. When she made enough money, she would buy herself a darker cloak, and perhaps some thicker clothes. To wetland standards, she was poor, but she had never considered herself as such in her hold. The individual clan member had no need for gold, only those who traded for the tribe in Haven actually carried money. When Zaole left on her quest, she was provided with a little money which she spent on rooms in two inns, and an interesting dish of food in Manni. Otherwise, she was content with what she had. Food, she carried or hunted herself. Clothing had been the only problem she had encountered thus far.

Her amber eyes drifted to a slender woman in shabby clothes standing in the square. Zaole noticed her when she first took the position, for what reason, Zaole did not care. What caught the tribes-woman's attention was the young man interacting with her.

Zaole broke out into hearty laughter as the man was dropped to his knees by a swift kick in the groin from the woman. "I've never seen a wet-land woman handle a man properly until now," Zaole spoke up, loud enough for the woman and her dwarf companion to hear.

Terelyn looked at Zaole surprisingly. She rarely met someone with the same outlook on men before. "Wetland-woman?" She asked. "Well, he had it coming. Seen that look all too many times." Terelyn approached Zaole slowly, her sleeves falling past her hands quickly. "I'm guessing if you aren't from around here, you are here to save this pathetic town. The name's Terelyn. My pal here is Smolgar. A good team we are."

Zaole pulled down the white cowl wrapped loosely in front of her lower face, revealing her dark bronze skin. She rose to her feet gracefully. "Terelyn, Smolgar," she said and acknowledged both of them. She gave both a sweeping bow and stood straight again. "I am Zaole, a warrior of the Wind Tribe. I come from the Storm and Fire Desert seeking to prove myself against greater challenges in the land of Lodoss." Her entire greeting was very formal, as she was taught from childhood. Customs in her tribe were very strong.

"My travels have brought me this far, I stopped to learn more of the land of...Moss," she said, stumbling over the strange word, at least it was to her. "But I did not know who to speak to in order to earn money for protecting the town..."

"You want the pompous man in the main building over there," she said, pointing to the town hall. "He will try and jip you out of full payment."

Smolgar saw the woman and he could notice she wasn't from Moss, neither were Smolgar or Terelyn, but they knew Lodoss well. He then said, "Hey Terelyn, this woman is here for the job, also."

Zaole smirked, "Thank you Terelyn," she said, then turned toward where she had directed, walking with a deadly grace.

Zaole returned shortly afterwards with a similar smirk on her face and her white hood thrown back to reveal her dark head. She received a few strange looks from the fair skinned villagers, but she pretended not to notice.

She took her place beside Terelyn and watched the townsfolk with sharp amber eyes. "That was not very hard," she said.

Terelyn nodded, watching the day go by. At night, Terelyn tossed Zaole a few gold coins. "Go get an inn to stay in." She began to walk off. She knew Zaole was short of money. Thieves knew these things. She turned the corner, heading to an inn she had seen on her way in.

Zaole frowned at the coins Terelyn had pressed in her hand. She didn't have the chance to refuse. Now she had a debt to repay, not to mention the fact she didn't like sleeping in beds. The ground was good enough for her. But...Terelyn was long gone, so Zaole retraced her steps to the same tiny inn and bought herself a room for the night.

Terelyn and Smolgar spent the night sleeping in the cheapest room available. They spent the majority of the night in discomforts, woke up and left. The town was on hype, as if soldiers were spotted moving towards the town.

Smolgar moved his sight from one side to another, watching all the hype, then he said "This town really needs our help, don't know how some weak goblins scare them," he looked again at the town, "Terelyn, I think we should get moving".

"Get moving where? We are in the city, and we can hear all the yelling. I think its a fine spot. Someone will yell when they get here. Why waste your energy running around the place and be tired before they even get here?" Terelyn replied.

Zaole strode out of the inn, looking about the town for any sign of Terelyn and Smolgar. The innkeeper told her they left, but that was all he could say. She wandered around in search of them, picking up on the tension of the townsfolk. Finally she found them and headed over to where they were standing.

Terelyn pointed towards the approaching Zaole. "There is someone who knows the importance of it, Smolgar! See, she is calm, relaxed and watching the buffoons run around like yippidy street dogs!"
