Alni's touch drove him crazy, what was this feeling he had? He was perplexed, but kept it inside, even though it was very difficult to do so. "It looks alot worse than it feels" He said with a slight studder here and there. When she turned away to get back on the road, he sighed softly as if he were holding a breath of air. He followed her soon after, looking back to Phaelle. "Let us continue."

Phaelle yawned, suddenly not looking as weak as she was disinterested. "I'm coming. Have to follow the bloodscent after all." she mumbled drowsily and then followed the rest of the group.

Alni walked with her ragged and tired companions, her head hung low. She was obviously feeling guilty for running headlong into a battle with undead, assuming they could easily defeat a few zombies. Her leg was sore, but not bad enough to make her limp. She felt better if she could stare at the ground instead of David's hurt head, or Phaelle's exhausted face.

The trio made it to what remained of the Mirror Forest. A scorched plain surrounded by a few lone trees that were struggling to survive the corruption. Alni's head dropped even lower, if it were possible. She and Katela had fought desperately against Cray's automaton soldiers, but it had done no good and the Forest fell. The memory and pain of what was lost dragged her down even deeper.

They crunched across the burnt ashy ground until Katela's blood scent led them to a camp. There was a campfire with rocks that still held a little warmth, though the coals were dead. Foot prints were obvious in the ash. They searched the camp and Alni and climbed up on a large log to survey from a higher vantage. But behind the log, she found something that boiled her blood. A pair of torn, blue panties that matched the blue-trimmed dress Katela wore. Alni clenched her teeth until her jaw ached, then started cursing, invoking the name of every god she knew. She kicked the log hard enough to break through the burnt crust and stubbed her toe on the hard wood inside. Alni then started growling viciously what she would do when she found Dyred and his companions, sorts of torture that were at home in the temples of Kardis, Falaris and Baylos. Then, when she ran out of foul words, she fell to her knees and sobbed heartily.
On the day of her arrival
No one is there to meet her
Something of a sad one
A girl with permanent tears
Born without a family
Born without a name
All she ever wanted
Was to wipe her tears away

David examined the area while in shock. He would have never imagined the damages to be this bad. Just looking at what was left of the forest made him realize that his hometown could very well look like this. Remembering how his hometown looked before he had left, David melded the photographic memory with the view he had of the Mirror Forest, producing scary results in his mind. It was nothing like he had imagined before. It was far worse now than it was before.

He had to be strong, now was not the time to feel weak. It wasn't his moment, it wasn't the time or place. He watched Alni carry on, something told him inside that it would be best for her to let it out. Though he himself has never felt a strong emotional blow struck to him, the stories of travellers have said that the worst thing to do with emotions is to keep them bottled up.

When he felt that the time was right, he trudged behind Alni and layed a hand on her shoulder. "We'll get her back, and those bastards will get whats coming to them" He said softly, again his own thoughts running wild. What am I doing here anyway? I'm supposed to go to Valis... but I can't just ignore my compan... friends, He thought. He recalled his sheltered childhood, not having a single friend. He did once have a friend when he did freelance work, together they were inseperable. He died on the job, and since that day David had sworn never to let that happen again.

Phaelle looked over the mortals and then considered the tracks in the area. She still had Katela's bloodscent, however faint now, to follow... and it was a bit stronger than before. After a moment of careful consideration, she turned to her comrades. "Alni, David. We must go now. I understand your revulsion over what has happened to Katela, but she doesn't need your pity. Right now, you must both be strong for her." Her tone was slow, but deliberate. Phaelle felt tired, but she was undead. She could force herself beyond the fatigue she felt. After all, her feelings didn't matter over those of the living. Without them, she would just have emptyness. Phaelle's reason for trying to rescue Katela was perhaps selfish, but she was being honest about it: she wanted Katela back so she would have a purpose to her existence through others. If she lacked that, she was just a monster. "We must move on." she pressed the point on. "Come." The Vampire turned and continued on, her shredded robe rustling.

Alni sniffed and drew her arm across her face. David's hand was on her shoulder and offered some comfort. She wanted a shoulder to cry on right now, but even more she wanted to get to Katela soon. Alni got back to her feet. "Well," she started, her voice scratchy from the screaming and crying. "Let's go." She sniffed again and trudged toward Phaelle.
