RE: Canon Revisions: Ashram

Here's what I've written on Ashram so far. It's been hard to get through, but I finally got to the anime continuity.
Ashram was born into a noble household in Alania. He was the heir of a noble family that extended from the royal Kadamos family five generations back. His father was a captain of the Alanian knights with a bright future ahead of him. In time, he could could have been promoted to deputy commander, and one day to commander-in-chief of the entire knighthood. Ashram himself may have become ensquired to his father one day, and eventually become a knight as well.

However, in Ashram's eighth year, his life was torn apart. His father learned of colleague's dishonesty and injustice, he reported it. However, the other man was a favored vassal of the royal family. The royal family destroyed the prosecution's evidence, threatened the witnesses, and produced unfavorable testimony against Ashram's father. When the trial was over his father had been made out to be the guilty party, and in disgrace, he was convicted. He was sentenced to exile and transported to the dark island of Marmo. The burden of guilt, and the punishment, was extended to Ashram and his mother.

Ashram and his parents were shipped off to Marmo, and en route, Ashram met a boy about his age named Owen. A thief, Owen had been apprenticed to a master thief. In helping his master escape, Owen allowed himself to be caught by a knight. Unfortunately, it turned out that his master had been the one that reported Owen as a thief. As punishment, Owen was sent to Marmo as well, while his master got off. This boy became Ashram's closest friend.

Ashram's family feel apart after their arrival on Marmo. Within a year of their arrival, his father was assassinated by the Thieves' Guild. After his father's death, his mother, accustomed to a luxurious lifestyle, attached herself to a rich and powerful man and left Ashram to his own devices. If such a skilled swordsman and noble soul fell to the dark island, what hope would there be for any form of righteousness? Ashram made a vow in order to survive; he would become wicked enough to swallow the whole island. With the death of his father, Ashram and Owen—whose own parents had succumbed to the darkness of Marmo—joined together to destroy the Thieves' Guild in vengeance. This was the beginning of a long-running feud between Ashram and the guild.

Other lost children of Marmo were drawn to Ashram and Owen, and a gang of miscreants was formed. These children had no rules, and no one to control them. They spread chaos throughout the city, slaughtering beggars, mutilating prostitutes so they could no longer work, and murdering anyone they saw fit. Ashram's conflict with the Thieves' Guild was carried over to his followers. When Ashram was sixteen, he found his mother and her new lover, and he murdered them both. They made enemies with not only the Guild, but the Marmo council as well. However, they had the full support of the Falaris church. Ashram was making good on his promise.

He had greater ambitions though. As he grew older, he began to think of a better future for his people. For now, he would let the children have their fun, but in time, they would tire of the senseless violence and crave something more. When this time came, he would create his own kingdom on the dark island and bring the council under his control. Then, he would assemble an armada to attack his homeland of Alania.

When he was nineteen, he was approached by a member of the Thieves' Guild, Amber Eyes, with a message from the council. In the forests, the red-haired mercenary, one of the Six Heroes, Beld, was calling himself the Emperor of Marmo. He had united the barbarian tribes and the dark elves under him, and they soon would threaten the city of Persei. The council feared losing their power, and so they commissioned Ashram and his gang to put an end to Beld. In return, Ashram would become a member of the council. Though he had no desire to be their pawn, he saw this as an opportunity to move forward with his plans. He would take his place on the council, then destroy that ruling body from the inside out. In a few years, he would be king of Marmo.

To lure Beld to Persei, Ashram's gang kidnapped his lover. The girl had been provided to Beld in a form of political marriage, as she was the sister of the barbarian chief. Whether or not he loved her didn't matter; if harm befell her, then the barbarian tribe could break it's ties with Beld. Either the love of the woman, his pride, or the risk of losing allies, Beld would be compelled to rescue her. The following day, notices were put up around Dark Town beckoning Beld to come at the appointed time to rescue his woman and discuss an alliance.

So, Ashram, his gang, and mercenaries hired by the council to support him, waited for Beld. Ashram doubted he would come alone, as was demanded by the notices. He expected Beld to lead an army behind him and take the city at this opportunity. He was surprised, however, when Beld did indeed come alone. This meant that Ashram would have duel Beld on his own, even though Beld wielded the terrifying demon sword.

Ashram met Beld, and offered an alliance, but as he suspected, Beld wanted nothing to do with an alliance with the council. He would be nothing short of emperor. With his denial to make peace with the council, Ashram's only option was to slay him. And thus, the two dueled. Ashram found himself far outmatched—though he did manage to land one scratch on Beld. Finally, Beld struck him with the flat of his blade, knocking Ashram unconscious for a moment. When he came to, Ashram was shocked to find that he was still alive. Beld walked on to retrieve his woman, leaving Ashram. However, Owen stopped Beld. The council's mercenaries were assembled around Owen, ready to fire on Beld, and Ashram.

Owen had betrayed Ashram. He wanted no part in Ashram's dreams, and he had been working with the Thieves' Guild for many years. All the thieves that the gang had murdered were the rivals of Amber Eyes, who, using Owen, had been climbing his way to the top of the guild. Now, all his rivals were dead and Amber Eyes could take his place as the head of the Thieves' Guild, with Owen having a senior position in the guild.

Owen ordered the archers to fire on Beld and Ashram, giving Ashram no time to escape. He expected death, but instead no arrows fell upon them, even though the archers were firing in almost a frenzy. Something was protecting him. It had to be magic. When Ashram realized it, a dark elf revealed himself. He was Astar, an ally of Beld's. Beld ordered Ashram to take up his sword and fight, but this time, against the men he thought were on his side.

They continued on to rescue the girl, but Owen noticed Astar's presence, and used that excuse to cut the girl's throat. Ashram would have killed Owen were he stood, but Beld stopped him, and only warned Owen of the wrath he had invoked from the barbarian tribes. He had, after all, failed to meet the terms of the meeting; he didn't come alone. Owen escaped, never to be seen by Ashram again. Beld collected his dead lover, and returned to the forest. Ashram's plans of becoming king were ruined, and now he made a new vow; that one day, he would surpass Beld. He truly believed that Beld could rule the wretched island of Marmo, and he followed the emperor.

Over the course of the next ten years, Ashram remained loyal at Beld's side, though they both knew he had the ambitions to succeed him. He could not surpass Beld yet, however. Together, with their army behind them, they took over Marmo. Ashram served Beld as a general, and a knight in the newly established knighthood of Marmo. At Beld's left hand was the wizard Wagnard. Once a student at the Academy of Sages, Wagnard was expelled for studying black magic—necromancy. For his transgression, he also had a geas placed on him by the headmaster Larkas that disallowed him to practice magic without undergoing severe pain. Wagnard's will, however, was stronger than the geas and he still managed to use his magic while suffering intense pain. He was also a devout worshipper of Kardis.

Beld had ambitions to unite Lodoss under him as well, once Marmo was stable. He needed no encouragement, but Karla, the Grey Witch, came to him to offer her support. Without warning, the Marmo invaded Kanon and took Shinning Hill. The king of Kanon was deposed, and assassins were sent to Alania to kill King Kadamos VI. Next in Beld's path was his old friend, King Fahn of Valis. After Kanon fell, Ashram was sent into Alania to advance Marmo's claims, which included the fall of the fortress Myce. Unbeknownst to Ashram at that time, he had made a life long nemesis in the future Free Knight, Parn. Parn and his companions had been staying at the fortress the night Ashram's legion attacked. Though Ashram would never remember, his image had been burned into Parn's mind.

Soon, the forces of Valis and Marmo clashed. Ashram soon met Parn in battle, and out classed Parn—though Parn showed the potential to become a greater swordsman. However, their duel was interrupted as Beld and Fahn found each other. The two kings, and former allies, crossed swords in a duel to the death. Though Fahn put up a valiant effort, he was old and weak. The demon sword Beld wielded had provided him youth, keep his skills sharp. Beld struck down Fahn, and it seemed, for a moment, that the Marmo would be able to take Valis, and perhaps, all of Lodoss.

However, another king stepped forward. Kashue, the young king of Flaim, and a former mercenary, challenged Beld. From out of nowhere, despite the fact that the battle seemed to have stalled around them, an arrow struck Beld in the arm. Taking advantage of this distraction, Kashue slew Beld in an act of cowardice. This would breed hatred in Ashram for years to come.

After Beld's death, Ashram took his place, though only in the eyes of his people. The council gained political power again. Ashram took the demon sword Soul Crusher as his own and began to arduous task of taming it. His goal to succeed Beld was still within him, and in one aspect, he did succeed Beld. Whereas Beld was swayed by the will of Soul Crusher, Ashram bent the sword to his will.

The war, however, remained stagnant. There were disputes on the borders of the land Marmo had claimed, but the territory neither expanded, or retracted. For five years, this was how life continued. Underground, the Kanon Free Army was forming. The Marmo were making ties with the current regent of Alania, but there was little progress. However, the Marmo commoners were coming to Kanon to make new lives for themselves. Temples to Falaris were established in Kanon, and dark elves had cleared Kanon's forest of common elves and taken up residence there.

Ashram learned of the Scepter of Domination. The ancient relic of Kastuul promised it's wielder absolute control over all people and all living things. If Ashram could acquire this relic, he could unite Lodoss under his rule and succeed where Beld had failed. The scepter was guarded by an ancient dragon, but Ashram couldn't find out which one. Narse was ruled out, as it was known that he guarded the Ferroniere of Knowledge. Ashram began to prepare.

Five years after the end of the War of Heroes, Ashram set out on his search for the Scepter with several companions. Astar, the dark elf who had served Beld; Garbela, a Falaris priest; Groder, a wizard and student of Wagnard; and mercenaries Smetty and Gilram. First, they went to the White Dragon Mountains to find Bramd, the ice dragon. While he hibernated, Ashram slew him only to find that his curse to protect a relic of Kastuul had been lifted. The high priestess of Marfa, Neese, had sold his treasure, the Mirror of Truth, to fund the upkeep of the Marfa temple.

Ashram's journey continued to the west coast of Lodoss where he would next hunt Abram and Shooting Star. He stopped on his way through Flaim where he found the Myrii priest, Hobb. He convinced Hobb to follow him, and continued on to Raiden. There, he enlisted the aid of a pirate crew to take him to Blue Dragon Island.

Ashram then traveled to Raiden. In the islands to the north, the water dragon, Abram, resided. They slew him, and found his treasure to be the Soul-Crystal Ball, which had the power to bring back the dead. Groder took the ball and kept it for his master, Wagnard (the ball was stolen before it reached Marmo and later stored in Flaim). The only dragon left was the most powerful, Shooting Star. Kashue had also come to slay Shooting Star, but for other reasons. Due to the influx of refugees from the fallen monarchy of Alania, Flaim was suffering from over population. People had tried to settle on Shooting Star’s hunting ground and found themselves his prey. The rich land was needed for farming and the only way to get it, was to slay the dragon. At Fire Dragon Mountain, Ashram met Kashue. Because their ambitions to slay Shooting Star were the same, they made a brief pact. They would kill the dragon together, and then duel for the scepter. Meanwhile, nearly all of Ashram's party was killed (excluding Groder). As agreed, Ashram and Kashue fought Shooting Star and succeeded in killing him. They dueled, and both were wounded. Ashram was more seriously wounded and while they paused from their battle, Ashram noticed how easily he could reach the scepter and he lunged for it. However, the knight, Parn, swooped in to knock it out of his hands. The scepter fell into the lava pit that had just claimed Shooting Star, lost forever. Ashram stumbled to the edge of the precipice and thought he had lost it all. He threw himself into the pit, but before he hit the lava, and unknown to everyone else, Groder teleported him out of danger.

The next ten years, Ashram lived in secret on Marmo. He was widely believed to be dead. At the beginning of the War of the Destroyer’s Resurrection, Ashram resurfaced with Pirotess by his side. Kanon had been under Marmo’s control for the last fifteen years, since the War of Heroes, and in this time, Prince Reona of Kanon had formed the Free Army. The ruling council of Marmo decided to remove the man they appointed to rule over Kanon Rabido, due to his excess greed and personal ambition. They decided to replace the mad dictator and sent Ashram and Pirotess to deal with them.

Ashram ordered Rabido to step down, but despite that, Rabido sent his forces to crush the Free Army. Rabido also ordered for all the villagers of Shinning Hill killed and the city burned if the Free Army won. Aware of this, Ashram personally freed the villagers and sends them out of harm’s way. Rabido was killed in battle. In the now deserted city of Shinning hill, Ashram and Pirotess meet Parn and Deedlit again. He and Parn fight shortly, and Ashram spares him out of respect. He and Pirotess then returned to Marmo with their mission completed.

With the threat of Kardis' Resurrection and the invasion of Marmo, Ashram and his people set sail to find a new world they could settle without prejudice.

Abilities:

History: Abandoned by her mother, Flaus was left on the doorstep of the Falis monastery in Adan as a baby in the cold of winter. When the priests found her, they feared exposure to the cold would have killed the girl, but Flaus proved strong, which was seen as a miracle in their eyes. The priests took her in and raised her to be one of their order. She showed a skill for battle, and a grew up with a strong faith in Falis. Even as a teenager, she rose high in the ranks of the Warrior Priests until she was named their leader.

In NRC 473, the Duke of Skard, a duchy in the Moss region, released the demon lord, and for the next year, demons began to invade Lodoss. Flaus set out into the world to deal with the demons. While passing through a small village ravaged by demons, she crossed paths with the mercenaries Beld and Wort. Beld, born of the barbarian tribes of Marmo and Wort, a sorcerer, traveled together as mercenaries. The two prepared to do battle with the arch demon terrorizing the village; Wort armed with the power of mana and Beld with his sword, an as he prepared to strike down the demon, a bolt of lightning struck it dead. The source was unknown, but they collected the demon's head to sell it in Kanon and decided to move on. Impressed by them, Flaus offered to hire them at the expense of the Falis monastery.

Thus, Flaus returned to Roid with Beld and Wort. Upon her return to the monastery, she met with Fahn, leader of the holy knights of Valis.

Added some more to her history... It seems too much...but I don't know how to summarize it better. >.< It's so much work considering what's ahead too...
As Deedlit recovered, Parn and Kashue prepared to go to battle against the Fire clan. Parn was given command over a regiment of soldiers and mercenaries, including the mercenaries Marsh, Shood, and Deni. The battle seemed to have been going well, until the Flame Tribe summoned Efreet to destroy Kashue’s forces while engaged in battle with their own soldiers. Parn escaped the flames and while ordering his men to retreat, made a bold charge at Nardia, the Flame Tribe’s leader. Though he defeated her in a duel, her men captured him. One of the mercenaries had seen them take Parn, unconscious, and Kashue relayed this information to Deedlit. Immediately, Deedlit decided that she had to go rescue Parn, and Kashue sent Marsh, Shood, and Deni along with her.

Deedlit and the mercenaries traveled to the captured city of Hilt, where the clan leader had taken up residence, and where Parn was likely being held. Using the underground canal, they were able to sneak into the city from beneath it. After capturing and interrogating a guard, they were able to learn Parn’s location. Deedlit arrived just in time to rescue Parn from the wrath of Azumo, the Flame Tribe’s priest of Efreet. Opening up a portal through the fire elemental, Deedlit whisked herself, Parn, and the mercenaries were out of the city. During Parn’s time with Nardia, he came to realize the trouble between the two tribes. Both sides accused the other of uniting with Kastuul, and sealing their guardian spirit, when it truth, the Kastuulians sealed both spirits and spread the rumor of betrayal to each side of the tribe to keep them in constant conflict.

After Parn’s return, the group decided to travel to Alania for the guidance of Leylia and Slayn. As Leylia had been a host to Karla, she hopefully could shed some light on the meddling of Kastuul between the two tribes. Kashue, in the meantime, had plans to try to free Djinn to put them on equal standing as the Flame Tribe. He offered Parn and his companions his single sailing ship to take them to Alania, hurrying their trip to the Tarba temple. While they expected to find Leylia in Tarba, and Slayn in Zaxon, to their luck and surprise, Slayn was already at Tarba, and they soon learned that he had married Leylia.

Leylia provided the information they needed, about how Kastuul broke apart the tribes to seal their power and keep them in conflict so they would not threaten the kingdom’s sovereignty with their elemental guardians. Also, it seemed Karla had freed Efreet and leading Azumo to honor his ancestral covenant with the fire demon. Leylia postulated that if a new covenant could be formed and both Djinn and Efreet convinced to follow it, they would abandon their covenant with the tribes, which could lead to the end of the war, especially if both tribes could learn the truth. As the only shaman, Deedlit was the one who would have to make the covenant. As they returned to Flaim, Slayn and Leylia joined them.

The group traveled to the Tower of Dust Storms, where Djinn’s sacred urn was held. As they entered the tower, Deni was caught by a trap and killed by a demon. Here, Shood revealed their true identities; his real name was Foss and Deni was Sardi. They were thieves, and had been raised by the Thieves’ Guild. They had become mercenaries and assumed aliases for their own quest, but became caught up with Parn.

The group continued on, until they reached the sealed door that held Djinn. From there, Deedlit would continue on her own, but not before giving Parn their first kiss.

Deedlit entered Djinn’s realm and faced the king spirit, mustering all her will to prove that she was strong enough to make a new covenant. She convinced Djinn to abandon the old covenant with the tribes and make a new one with her, and he put her to the test. Deedlit passed, and Djinn honored her with a new contract, and gave her his new name, Aruku. She emerged victorious, and they went to join the final battle as Kashue defended Blade from the Flame Tribe. As Azumo summoned Efreet, Deedlit called to the fire elemental and explained the change of covenant, and that his old contract with Azhard was now void. Efreet did not believe her, until she summoned Djinn, whose word Efreet would trust.

Efreet followed Djinn’s lead, and the two king spirits departed. Thus, the covenant with Azhard was broken, leaving the Flame Tribe without their guardian. However, Nardia pressed onward, determined to defeat Kashue. He would not fight her, however. Kashue sought peace, and desired to reunite the two tribes into one. Nardia, however, could not agree to peace for herself, though she commanded her people to unite under Kashue. Ashamed of those lives she had taken, Nardia threw herself into the departing embers of Efreet and was reborn as the queen spirit Phoenix.

One thing I'm unsure about is does he have the holy sword of Falis (Heaven's Savior, I think is it's proper name)? In the OAV he was given it to save Deedlit, but that didn't really happen. However, he reappeared in Chronicles with what looked to be the holy sword. Did he acquire it some other way?

And a few questions about his past...
Was there anything outstanding about Tessius and Shoriki's marriage, him being a knight of Valis, and her being a member of the Alanian royal family?

Parn grew up in Alania, but because his father was a knight of Valis, did he possibly spend his early years in Valis, but his mother took him to Alania to escape Tessius's dishonor?

What happened to his mother? Did she die? (I assumed she did when he was a teenager)

Deedlit's history thus far...
Deedlit is the youngest of the high elves, and the only child born in a thousand years—Estas being the last child born before her. Her mother and father were both ancient by human terms when she was born. As the youngest of her people, the high elven clan pinned its hopes on her. Though Estas was already over a thousand years old himself when she was born, he and Deedlit were expected to one day marry.

As she reached adulthood, Estas became Deedlit’s good friend and caretaker. When she went off exploring the forest, he was often on her heels. He taught her much of shamanism and swordsmanship. Despite the fact that she was a grown woman, Deedlit was still quite immature and playful, much to Estas’s frustration. She grew to be rather curious of the world outside the forest, but she had been raised to fear and hate humans for their destructive nature.

One day, Deedlit and Estas saw a ghostly image of a human from the Forest of Lost Souls—the realm created by Ento to hold trespassing humans. It seemed that the man was trying to break free, so Estas went to speak to the elder about it.

Meanwhile, Deedlit went exploring and traveled to the edge of the forest, as far as she dared to go. Hearing dogs barking, she went to investigate and found a human hunter hunting rabbits on the outskirts of the forest. She was upset to see him with dead rabbits, but he quickly explained that humans needed to eat meat to survive, and that he never took more than he needed. He described himself as a part of the forest, much like a fox or other predator, and that he respected nature. Deedlit was convinced, and they spoke further. His name was Jord, and he explained that he knew how to avoid the traps of the Forest of No Return. However, his father hadn’t been so lucky. Fifteen years ago, his mother fell ill and his father went hunting to earn some money for medicine. Jord assumed that his father, in haste, ignored the warning and got trapped in the forest.

After speaking to Jord, Deedlit gave him a warning and sent him on his way, then returned home. He had seemed so familiar, and she realized that he looked like the man she and Estas saw earlier! It seemed likely that he was Jord’s father. After learning that Estas had been sent to kill the man, Deedlit followed him into the Forest of Lost Souls. She found him just as he was about to deliver the deathblow on Jord’s father and stopped him. She told them both about meeting Jord, and his father was astonished that it had been so long since he became lost. He said that he decided to hunt a legendary beast in the forest so he could collect a reward and buy medicine for his wife. He believed that because he hunted out of greed, the forest had punished him. Estas agreed to let him go. He was freed from the curse and sent home to his family.

It was shortly afterwards that the elder announced that she sensed a great evil in the world and that she wanted someone to investigate. Deedlit eagerly volunteered, but most elves were against it. Estas was expected to be the one to leave, but surprisingly, he actually supported Deedlit. It was agreed that Deedlit would go, and she was provided with armor and a sword. It wasn’t until Estas said farewell that she knew why he had supported her.
Estas the High Elf wrote: “I was once like you are now. I volunteered to go to the outside world. That was back before you were born. Back when I thought there was hope for the outside world. And hope for humans. My hopes soon turned to despair. I saw friends killing each other, and the man who killed the most was praised as a hero. I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t want to believe it...Maybe I sided with you so I could punish you. No matter how hard I try, you never seem to understand. You’re going to have to see the ugly truth for yourself. Then maybe you’ll get a taste of despair.”
Despite this, Deedlit was not deterred. She was just as determined as ever to make her own opinion about humans. Even with Estas’s lecture, she set out into the world, full of hope.

It wasn’t soon after that Deedlit met Parn. While traveling in Alania, Deedlit observed an army of goblins heading toward a human village in broad daylight. She first tracked down their den, to find it empty save for two human men. After telling them the goblins were going to the village, she let the humans deal with the problem.

Several days later, she met them again. Parn, she learned the young man was named, was a headstrong youth who aspired to be a knight, but lacked in the skills. Etoh, his childhood friend, was a Falis priest. Slayn, a sorcerer from Zaxon, and Ghim, a dwarf, had joined them. They too had been sent on a mission to discover the root of the evil looming over Lodoss. After a false imprisonment, and a battle with the Marmo army, they were joined by a thief, Woodchuck.

Their journey took them through the Forest of No Return—where Woodchuck, Ghim, and Parn were almost lost—and then to the rescue of princess Fianna of Valis. With Fianna, they traveled to Roid where they were honored for their valor and told of the war with the Marmo Empire. They also learned about the witch, Karla, as she had been the kidnapper of Fianna. Ghim recognized her as Leylia, a Marfa priestess he had been close to and who disappeared seven years earlier. They were sent to see the sage Wort for more information on Karla, and learned that she was an ancient Kastuulian sorceress who bound her soul to a circlet so she could live on by possessing the bodies of others. Her purpose for this was so that she could maintain the balance of powers in Lodoss so it wouldn’t be destroyed in the same way Kastuul had. It seemed that Leylia had been taken by her.

Through the trip, Deedlit found herself increasingly intrigued, and eventually attracted to Parn, but the boy hardly noticed her interest at first. These people were nothing like the humans Estas spoke about. Parn was called a hero for rescuing Fianna, but he slaughtered no one for the title. Her companions were all good people, and wouldn’t kill wantonly. The Marmo, however, had cut a swath of destruction across southeastern Lodoss. Not all humans were like what Estas told her, which filled her heart with hope, but there were many that were, and that made her feel despair. She wasn’t disheartened, however.

She and Parn fought alongside the Valisians in the final battle of the War of Heroes, and saw both Fahn and Beld slain. Both kings lost, leaving the Marmo and Valis forces at a stalemate. For the next fifteen years, Kanon and the surrounding region would be occupied by the Marmo, but the Marmo would be able to gain little more ground than what they held.

After seeing the end of the War of Heroes, Parn and Deedlit rejoined their companions to complete another mission. Karla, the Grey Witch, had instigated the war, and they now knew that she possessed the body of the Marfa priestess Leylia. The six new heroes faced off against the ancient sorceress to save both Lodoss, and Leylia. Ghim fell to the witch’s spell, but it was his axe that removed the cursed circlet from Leylia’s head, freeing the priestess. However, Karla was not defeated. Instead, she took possession of Woodchuck and escaped.

Their company parted ways after paying their final respects to Ghim. Slayn took Leylia back to her mother, and soon married the priestess. Etoh went to princess Fianna’s side and eventually married her as well, leading to him becoming king of Valis. However, Parn was determined to find Woodchuck, and Deedlit remained at his side. They traveled Lodoss for the next few years, trying to find rumors of a black haired sorcerer. Alania and Moss fell into civil war, and presumably, it was Karla pulling the strings behind them.

Two years later, Parn and Deedlit’s journey brought them to Flaim, which was on the verge of civil war as well. The two clans of Fire and Wind were clashing, and it was rumored that the Fire clan was led by a black haired sorcerer. Pursuing this rumor, they went to see Kashue. Unfortunately, their hopes of finding Woodchuck were dashed, as it seemed the sorcerer was actually a shaman. However, because of this, Kashue asked Deedlit for her help as a shaman. The Fire clan shaman had control of Efreet, and with the fire king, Flaim was at the mercy of the tribe. Parn and Deedlit agreed to help, and halt their search for Karla.

Kashue requested Deedlit to summon Salamander, which she was not pleased to try. Salamander is considered a destructive and evil spirit by high elves, and rarely summoned. Deedlit was ashamed to have to attempt it, but she did. However, her simple attempt to summon Salamander brought Efreet’s attention to her. The fire demon erupted from the brazier she had summoned from. Deedlit was thrown aside and knocked unconscious. She may have been burned to a crisp, but with the help of an enchanted sword provided by Kashue, Parn rushed in to save her. Efreet retreated, with a promise to meet Parn again.

After their experiences in Flaim, Deedlit and Parn would return to Zaxon with Slayn and Leylia and build a small home together. During this time, Slayn took Cecil as an apprentice and “Little” Neese was born. However, the politics in Alania were fairing poorly. After the death of the last king, a Duke Raster was chosen to be regent, and he was a greedy, heartless man. His exorbitant taxes led to Slayn spearheading an independence movement where the villages of Zaxon, Hanam, Zelni, and several others in the region declared independence from the nation of Alania and Raster’s unrealistic expectations.

Raster sent soldiers and mercenaries to extort the due taxes from the village, and eventually, he ordered Hanam razed as an example to the other independent villages. A wounded Hanamite wandered into Zaxon to be found by Parn and Deedlit, who managed to explain a little before he collapsed, dead. Deedlit and Parn rushed to Hanam, hoping to save more people, but what they found when they reached Hanam were destroyed homesteads, slaughtered villagers, and mercenaries camping in what was left of the village. As they observed, they were startled when another elf appeared... It was Estas.

Estas had left the Forest of No Return to take Deedlit home, and as he traveled to Zaxon, he saw the smoke from the remains of Hanam and had stopped to investigate. He had already counted the soldiers, and saved Deedlit and Parn the work of scouting. He was cold to Parn, but Deedlit was still overjoyed to see Estas again—until she knew the reason he came.

Estas returned to Zaxon with Deedlit and Parn, and spent much of his time harshly critiquing her friends and humanity in general. At first, Deedlit tried to explain and put him at ease, but Estas’s criticisms began to wear on her... and then, he revealed the truth; he had been sent to retrieve her. Deedlit defied him, and insisted on staying, so they made a deal; if she could prove that humans were not as evil as he believed, then she could stay. Shortly afterwards, there was an attack from Raster’s ranger on several village guards. A village meeting was called, which Estas and Deedlit sat in upon. The Zaxon villagers could not reach a consensus about what to do, however, and Estas was no impressed.

Parn, Deedlit, Slayn, Leylia, Cecil, and Estas gathered at Parn’s homestead to try and make a decision on their own. They asked for Estas’s help, but he refused. After all their discussions though, they could not make a decision either, and everyone went home. That night, Deedlit was awakened by a scream outside the village, and she ran out to discover the source; the mayor of Hanam had been left unconscious outside the gates of Zaxon. He was taken back to Slayn and Leylia’s home for healing, and they found a letter on him from Duke Raster addressed to the people of Zaxon. It was an ultimatum; demanding that the people of Zaxon turn over the Sage of the North and his accomplices, and the people of Zaxon would be spared, but if they refused, they would suffer the same fate as Hanam. Slayn decided that it would be honorable to show the letter to the people of Zaxon and let them decide, but Deedlit feared for the worst and was shocked that he would risk their lives.

Another village meeting was called, and the people of Zaxon were left torn and frightened. Parn insisted that the only option was to fight Raster’s men outside of the village, but very few of the locals wanted to support him. The meeting was adjourned, and Deedlit and Estas returned to her home with Parn. There, Estas revealed that it had been the hopes of their clan that they would one day marry, and that he loved her. Deedlit was shocked, not even Parn had expressed such feelings for her—but Parn was the one she loved. While they spoke though, the villagers of Zaxon had mobilized and surrounded their home. The mob had decided that they would comply with the duke, and so they tried to take Slayn and his associates by force.

With all the turmoil she had experienced recently—Estas coming to take her home, the deaths of so many, all the threats to her happiness with Parn—Deedlit lost control of her temper and began to summon Aruku to take out her rage on the villagers who had betrayed those she held dear. However, Estas was able to subdue her by putting her to sleep with a spell of his own.

After her outburst, the villagers explained themselves to Slayn and Parn, and Parn made the decision to set out to fight the soldiers, regardless of if anyone followed him or not. He immediately donned his armor and took up his sword, then set out. The next morning, Slayn, Leylia, Cecil, and Deedlit gathered to explain what Parn had done, and finally, the villagers were inspired. Taking up arms, the able-bodied followed Parn out onto the road. After marching for a few miles, they finally found the Free Knight waiting for them. At this act, Estas was finally convinced that there was some good in humans, and thus, he allowed Deedlit to remain.

A couple years later, after the battle with Raster’s soldiers in Hanam taught the duke a lesson, the duke took a step back from his initiative against the independent villages. However, he still sent soldiers and mercenaries to collect back taxes. Two of these mercenaries were Shiris and Orson, who had been hired along with several other men. While Cecil was left in charge of the village, they came to collect taxes and lured him out of the village. However, Deedlit and Parn returned at this point and were able to defeat the mercenaries. As they fought Shiris and her men, Orson went berserk when Parn defeated her in a duel. After they managed to subdue him, Shiris and Orson were taken back to Zaxon to rest, and . While they were there, Slayn and Leylia returned from Tarba with dire news.

Ashram had recently appeared in Tarba and spoke to Neese about the treasure Bramd had guarded, and revealed that he had slain the dragon and found nothing. Leylia recanted a tale of the fall of Kastuul, which she recalled from her time as Karla’s host. Apparently, guarded by one of the ancient dragons was a relic called the Scepter of Domination which would allow the wielder to control the people of Lodoss. This was Ashram’s goal, his way at conquering and uniting Lodoss in the dream of his emperor. Parn, Deedlit, Slayn, and Leylia of course, had to set out to stop Ashram, and Shiris and Orson agreed to come along.
