Mia exhaled sharply at the mention of soldiers scouting the forest. "That would only end badly," she commented. "We should go to the elven village and enlist their aid. I'm sure they'd be glad to kick a human out."

The elf cast a glance toward Aegir. "Well, since you intend to travel with me, would you be willing to tag along for this mission?"

“I’d be honored and it would give me a reason to leave this forest,” Aegir replied as he didn’t want to part with his recent friends. Crossing back over to the hut, the young centaur donned hardened leather armor and refastened the saber at his side before heading back out to rejoin the others. “I believe Cade would wish to sate his hunger before we depart,”

"I would, thank you very much." Cade replied. It wouldn't take too long to grab a bite, and something warm in his stomach would do him good. "You mentioned stew, right? Shall we sit out here or is their room in your home for all?"

“There was enough stew made for several days or several guests. The pot is inside the hut, with a spare bowl and spoon. A spare glass is nearby with a clay pitcher of water from a nearby creek. There is a table with several chairs,…you may choose any of them. Take your time eating and relax,…if you wish to eat out here or inside it is your choice,” Aegir replied, glad to have several guests in one day and was as gracious a host as possible. “You may move the chair out here if you wish,”

"Well, you live the high life out here, don't you friend?" Cade asked with a broad smile as he moved to the hut. Poking his head inside, we was slightly startled to find Mia's companion lying beside the table. "Well hello big fella. Been a while, hasn't it?"

Careful skirting Lucied, Cade claimed a bowl and filled it with stew. Back outside, he bobbed his head to Aegir. "Much obliged." he said as he sat down in the chair he'd brought out. "So what have you been up to since last time I saw you, Mia?" he asked as he dug into his bowl.

Lucied lazily lifted his head to look at Cade as the mercenary skirted around him. The wolf seemed rather unimpressed and disinterested in the man, and perhaps on the verge of a nap. Sitting around in someone's hut was not the wolf's idea of interesting, even if it was a werewolf-centaur's hut.

Mia gave a shrug in response to Cade. "Same ol', same ol'. Nothin' interesting, well, until meeting Aegir here," she explained.

Cade nodded until he'd swallowed his mouthful. "Slow days, eh? Well you've got some work now!" He paused as he took another bite of his stew. "Paying work, mind you." he said after he finished. "I'm not looking for charity. I'll make sure you, our host, and this guide you promise get paid for your help. The mages seem to be feeling generous."

Mia waved her hand dismissively. "Sera won't care much for human money. She'd be much happier to give a trespasser the boot anyway." Maybe to me too, but we'll see, Mia added, to herself. "Aegir, here, however, I offered to take him with me, let him see the world. He might even give the mercenary life a shot," she explained to Cade, winking in Aegir's direction.

OOC: OMG I'M MAKING A COMEBACK. My life is settling down a bit now, so I'll try to keep up with a few RP threads.

Cade gave Aegir an appraising look. The centaur certainly looked capable enough, though fighting for money seemed like a odd career for one of his people, if what Cade had read was true. "That right?" he asked his host. "Well, there's always folks looking to hire new help in this business. I'll introduce you to my boss after this job, if you'd like."

“It is true. Mia has graciously offered me a chance to see the world beyond the boundaries of these woods and a chance to fill my curiosity,” Aegir replied. “Your boss? A chieftain?”

Cade couldn't suppress a grin at that image. "Well, kind of, though out there they prefer to be called lords. The mages who hired me got my name from Lord Arhan, for example." Cade finished his stew and stood up. "He's a good guy to work for, generous with his coin and doesn't hover. I can think of worse places to start your career."

Cade took his bowl and chair back inside, placing the latter in its place and the former on the table. Back outside, he made a bow to Aegir. "Thank you very much for the meal." he said.

“You’re quite welcome and as a traveler, it is custom for my kind to be the kind host,” Aegir replied. He would later as to why a mage would request the help of others, but if Aegir was ever going to learn the ways of the world outside the forest he had better observe rather than coming across as some kind of foal. “It will not take long to clean those dishes, to set them aside and to pack up a few things for the road,” he said before ducking back into the hut. It didn’t take him long to clean the dishes, what few there were and to douse the fire with some water from a nearby creek. Emerging from the hut, a small pack had been slung over one shoulder and his armor had been tightened. The sword lay strapped to his side, in easy reach if it had to be drawn and for what Aegir hoped wouldn’t be the last time closed the door before locking it. The shutters were shut and locked, but not before the furniture outside had been stored inside. “I’m ready when you are, my friends,”

Mia and Lucied waited patiently outside of Aegir's hut, and once the centaur was finished, the elf cast a glance in the direction of the elven village and gave a sigh. It would be rather awkward to go back now, but she at least had a real mission this time. "Alright guys, let's go," she announced, then led the way back to the trail she was on when she first encountered Aegir's camp.

OOC: I still function :!:

"Alright!" Cade exclaimed, rubbing his hands as he grinned. "You're really saving my hide with this, Mia. Can't thank you enough." he said as he fell into line behind the elf. He glanced at Aegir as they went. "While we're walking, anything else you want to know about mercenary work?" he asked the centaur.

“I know not all humans, from observation, are less than altruistic. How do you know if this mage you have sworn to help is of the altruistic kind?” Aegir asked, having observed the human settlements just beyond the Glassy Woods’ borders and wasn’t quite as naïve about human kind as some of his kind would have been. “Do mages know of my kind? If this mage is of the altruistic kind, I wouldn’t want to cause him to die of fright or would I wish to be poked and prodded out of curiosity?” The young centaur had many more questions, mostly about what the lands beyond the Glassy Woods were like as they made their way through the woods to the elven village. Aegir kept his ears open, reached out with the acute hearing centaurs had been gifted with for any elven scouts or rangers that might be hidden in the trees watching them.
