Bastion slid around the other mage as quickly as he could, taking hold of Granites' other arm. "Come, Milady. We're nearly free!" he said excitedly, his other hand drawing from his coat a small piece of sandstone, the focus for a spell.

Kierland came around with a groan, which turned to a hoarse shout at the sight of Brest approaching. "Firale!" he slurringly said. "That's him! The hunter!"

Firale eyed the mounted man with wary distaste. "Hold your ground!" he snarled at the newly risen Broun, who complied, though the sight of himself down the street helping a young man and a dwarf shook him slightly. Kierland started backing off, his bow clutched before him.

"The gods have provided a better distraction than I could," Broun said with a witty smile unbefitting of his face. "I'm sure they can handle themselves." Pulling the two along and around the corner, he left the conflict for their star-crossed companions. The alleyway led to the street. At the end, sitting in the light of day, waited a carriage, closed and in no particular interest in moving. It was darker than usual, with no apparent door.

"On the wings of ravens I fly!" Broun shouted ahead of him. The wall on the carriage shifted and slid back, leaving a doorway in its wake. "We are making it!"

Brest nudges Steelheart forward who snorts in anticipation of battle. His steel shod hooves clop loudly against the cobbles of the street in staccato counterpoint to his words, "Stand aside" He points his sword towards the quailing Kierland.

"He is the one I have come for and I have no quarrel with the rest of you. Unless you plan to make one, in which case then we have a problem." Brest settles himself into his saddle. Bad guys never learn unless they bleed and it looked no different this time than any other.

Confused, but convinced that Broun was her way to safety, Granite staggered along, dragged by both the mysterious mage and Bastion. Her knees stung a bit from colliding with the pavement, but it was nothing more than an annoyance, though she barely had time to think about it. I hope I can get my mace back, she thought desperately casting one last glance over her shoulder at whomever was dealing with Rayston and his men.

Silvia rode behind Brest for the few paces it took to close the distance, then halted her gray mare and swung herself out of the saddle. Loosening her whip from her belt, the half-elf unwound it and gave it a snap, the metal barb at the end striking the pavement with a spark. While Brest fought in close range, she'd support him from a distance, intending to do her best to disarm any of the other men who might fight for Kierland.

Jenesis led the priestesses from the local temple back to the warehouse she had escaped from. They traveled at a fast pace, and Jenesis's heart pounded in her chest harder each step they took. She felt horrible for abandoning Bastion and Granite, and hoped that they hadn't been hurt. Maybe the priestesses wouldn't be enough to deal with that Rayston man and his thugs, but they seemed confident in their ability to subdue them.

As Jenesis led Elroda and Lucia onto the street she had escaped down from the warehouse's yard, she saw that the yard was empty, but there was commotion out in front. Steeling her nerves, the black-haired priestess ran toward the main street, the two elder priestesses on her heels. What greeted them was a scene of combat. Jenesis was too late to see Granite and Bastion dragged off by Broun, but she did see the rest of Rayston's men engaging an armored man on horse-back and a scantily clad half-elf woman with a whip.

Bastion hurried along, trying his hardest to keep Granite upright. He felt rather bad for leaving the two strangers in the lurch, but they seemed ready for trouble. Maybe they're enemies of Rayston? If this is indicative of his business practices, he probably has plenty of people who want him dead. the mage though as he threw as much of a glance behind himself as he dared.

Firale sneered at Brest. "New in town, ain't ya?" he hissed as he drew his blade, its thick, serrated edge gleaming dully. "No one crosses the Raystons, 'speicially not dogs too far from home."

Broun squared his shoulders and raised his maul, eying Sylvia cautiously as he placed his feet in a fighting stance. Kierland dithered in the door, seemingly too fearful of Brest to mount any attack with his bow.

Brest clearly had had enough of being defied. His patience at an end and he spurred Steelheart forward and struck out at maul wielding villain. He sword blow aimed not to kill but to take his shoulder so he could no longer use his weapon effectively. His horse timed his lunge at the target for maximum effect. His sword flashes down in a compact arc.

Brest engaged the man with the maul, which was probably for the best, as the half-elf didn't think she could get a good strike in on someone wielding such a large weapon. Silvia cracked her whip towards Firale, striking to bind his sword arm and hopefully disarm him.

As the battle ensued, the Marfa priestesses took it upon themselves to end it. "Jenesis, join us in prayer," Elroda spoke to the young priestess, reaching out for her hand while taking Lucia's hand as well. With a reluctant nod, Jenesis took the elder priestess's hand. "Oh Marfa, mother of creation, I implore thee, sap the will to fight from those who would do each other harm. Mother Marfa, bring peace to their angry hearts," Elroda began to pray.

After hearing the prayer, Lucia and Jenesis repeated it, and the three priestesses chanted the spell to subdue the fighters several times for it to make the greatest impact on the fighters--Rayston's thugs, and Brest and Silvia.

OOC: The spell will make everyone in front of the warehouse feel lethargic and less aggressive. I'll let Bundesphar decide if Silvia's strike worked before posting my response for her.

The mere sight of Brest on the attack was enough for Kierland, who turned and fled into the warehouse.

Broun spaced his hands wide on his maul, using the haft to catch the incoming blade. Though he saved his shoulder, the combined force of man and horse caused him to stagger badly.

"Bitch!" Firale gasped the curse, his swordbreaker falling to the ground as Silvias' attack hit home. Lightning quick, a knife appeared in his other hand, swinging up to hack at the binding whip.

So things stood when the priestesses' spell suddenly lay over the street. The two thugs swayed, abruptly robbed of the bulk of their aggression.

Brest blinked as the wave of magic rolled over him he lowered his sword, the desire to fight fled him. He looks to see where Kierland was standing and he is gone. Oh no, he will not escape me.

He slid from Steelheart's back and went running for the door trying to shake that feeling of lethargy from his his heart. I do not need to hurt him, just catch him.

Silvia let her whip go slack to allow it some give when her opponent tried to cut it, but as the spell overcame them, the half-elf staggered. Her whip unraveled from around Firale's arm, the tip clattering on the ground. Brest seemed to fight it enough to start running after Kierland, but Silvia lacked his determination. Looking back ahead of her, she saw the remaining thugs looking dazed and three women in familiar robes--Marfa priestesses. Feeling rather dizzy, the half-elf stumbled toward the warehouse wall and leaned against it.

As the spell took effect on the fighters, Jenesis looked out to the armored fighter running after what looked to be the same man that tried to capture her and disappeared. Wait... what is going on? she thought, confused about the entire thing with that Kierland fellow. She had to do something though, find some sort of answer.

The young black-haired priestess took off running, trying to catch up with the knight and the thug. "STOP!" she shouted as she caught up to Brest, trying with all his might to resist their subdual spell. She almost overtook him, but then she skidded to a halt in front of him. He would be of better use in catching Kierland than her, so if she could just break the spell over him, he could do the chasing and possibly catch him!

As Brest gains some distance from the source of the spell, he starts to pick up speed as his lethargy flows away, but the Priestess being more nimble and not dressed in armour slides to a stop in front of him. His eyes widen in surprise as there is an obstacle in his way. One does not stop a man in armour on a raiden.

He grabs her upper arms and swings himself around her saying in half apology as he tries to go by her without seriously hurting her or falling down himself. "Sorry Priestess, no time..."

Jenesis spun about as Brest pressed on, hurrying by her, and the priestess gave a sigh. "Oh Marfa, please dispel your magic on that man," she prayed as she watched Brest run away. Soon, his strength would return. Perhaps he could use more help though...

Jenesis's attention turned to the half-elf that had been fighting alongside the knight, and the priestess hurried over to her. "Your friend needs help!" she cried as she ran up to the scantily clad mercenary.

"Well, I ain't in any position to help, am I now?" she muttered, sounding somewhat annoyed, before Jen had the chance to explain. Jenesis only frowned slightly, then placed her hands on Silvia's brow and repeated the same spell she had spoke after Brest. Suddenly, the half-elf perked up. "Oh... well, thanks priestess," she said, and with Jenesis's blessing, Silvia took off after Brest as well. After a moment's thought, Jenesis started running after them as well.
