Brest gathered his belongings as well and came back out to the stables. IT took him a little bit of time to saddle and prepare his horse to travel but once that was done he brought him out of the stall and mounted up.

"At your leisure." He replied when he was prepared to move out.

Silvia turned her horse about again and rode the mare out onto the street. She led the way through the city, the crowd parting before the mounted pair, until the buildings began to look more and more dilapidated. Silvia realized that she didn't see much point in riding through the city, but she supposed it might have shaved a good half-hour off the walk.

The half-elf dismounted as the reached a narrow street along the bay. Though they could not see the water, the smell of the ocean and fish was stronger, marking their general location within Raiden. Taking Grey Wind by the reins, she led the mare down the darkened street to a building that appeared to be a tavern by the old, cracked wooden sign that hung from a rusty chain from above the door. The sign had once been painted, but the paint had long since worn off, and the weather bleached and distorted the wood, which no one seemed all to concerned with repairing or replacing until it fell down.

Silvia tied Grey Wind's reins to a nearby post within view of the window of the tavern. "Tie your horse down and keep an eye on them through the window. This isn't the best part of town to leave such valuable 'merchandise' sitting about," Silvia warned Brest.

Brest followed the mercenary through the city streets and looked about at the rundown condition of the buildings around him and made a face. How can people allow themselves to live like this! Once they reached the tavern street that Silvia was searching for Brest was clearly out of his element.

His clothing made him stick out like a sore thumb for the first thing, second he was in excellent health and much like Silvia, actually clean. He dismounted from his horse and lead him down to the appointed tavern. He listened to her advice and nodded. "Indeed, we should watch them from in there. I would not want anyone to be injured trying to ride him. That would be an unfortunate mistake on their part. Steelheart does not play well with others. Though it may be entertaining to watch the prospective thief get a thrashing."

Brest chuckles darkly at the thought and ties him to the post next to Grey Wind. Steelheart eyes the knight as if he knows what he is thinking and whickers once before standing there and waiting patiently.

Silvia laughed at Brest's comments about his horse as she crossed the street to enter the tavern. As she pushed open the door, the attention of the inn fell on her, and then on her armored companion. Both of them stuck out sorely from the crowd of scruffy sailors and ruffians. Even the inn staff looked poorly. A single waif-thin barmaid who had to be pushing fifty tended to the customers in a well-worn dress and stained apron, while a balding, sickly looking man tended the bar, likely the proprietor.

The half-elf leaned toward Brest and softly suggested; "You should go around and start flashin' that picture. I'll talk to the barkeep." A number of men gawked openly at Silvia, but she ignored them.

OOC: You can find an NPC who has seen Kierland here, but it might not be a direct lead.

Brest nods to the mercenary and gives a couple of the men who stare in there direction a very hard stare back. He reaches into his tabard and produces the sketch of the man they were looking for. He began moving around the room showing the picture to the scum and asking if anyone had seen the man. There was mostly silent stares greeting him in response to his presentation.

One man started to rise from his seat reaching to his side as the knight turned his back but his female companion grabbed his arm and whispered at him half hysterical and dragged him back to his seat. He makes his rounds of the room with one eye on the people he is speaking to and half to the horses out the window.

Brest finally makes his way back to the bar and leans against it next to Silvia. "No one has seen this man of course. Though, I think every man in here wants to see alot more of you." He orders an ale from the barkeep and tentatively takes a sip out of it to see if it has been watered down.

A small voice from just next to Brest says, "I have seen that man." It was the waif-thin barmaid. She looks around like a scared kitten cornered by a dog when Brest looks in her direction.

Silvia had spoken with the barkeep about anyone seeking to employ his patrons, and he had easily mentioned a few names to her. Leaning over the counter just slightly had done enough to loosen his tongue. As Brest returned, the half-elf shrugged lightly at his comment. She knew the sort of attention she got with the way she dressed, and it proved to be quite helpful.

As the barmaid approached, Silvia raised her eyebrow at the woman. "When was that?"

OOC: I'm going to ask Bundesphar to take over the barmaid NPC since he might have a better idea of how Kierland would be hired.

The barmaid looked nervously from Brest to Silvia, licking her thin lips. "It was just a few nights ago." she said in a near whisper, throwing a fearful glance at the barkeep. A small disturbance at the other end of the bar had drawn his attention however, and she continued. "Your man came in and sat there, like he was waiting for something." she gestured to a shadowy corner of the common room. "Not a half-hour later one of Wades' men, the fellow with the dragon tattoo, came in and sat with him. They talked a bit, had a couple drinks, then Wades' man left. Couldn't have been ten minutes after that, that your man headed off to." the barmaid stopped, cringing slightly. "That's all I know, I swear!"

Brest looks in the direction of the barkeep and then to Silvia, "Do you know who this Wade person is?" He turned his gaze back towards the barmaid and asked.

"Does this man come in here often? He a regular? Maybe you know where we could find him?" Brest adjusts his stance to stand straight up, he is not good with people skills.

The barmaid blanched before the barrage of qeastions, but she stood her ground. "Sometimes he's in here. Maybe once or twice a month? He usually doesn't have anything, just looks around, sometimes..."

"Hear now!" The barkeep suddenly appeared, glowering at the terrified barmaid. "I'll not have you waste the costumers' time with your whining tales. Get back to work!"

"Hey, hey!" Silvia shouted at the barkeep. "We're in the middle of a bloody conversation here, ye mind?" To make it worth his time, she reached into her boottop and pulled out a few coins, then slapped it on the counter before the barkeep. "Five gold for any lost wages, and we'll talk to your barmaid, sound like a deal?" the half-elf offered. It was a cheap tavern, so she didn't except that gold passed through the hands of the staff much.

Brest turns his no nonsense gaze to the bartender and says nothing but watches Silvia pay the man off. It is clear from Brest's look that he would not pay the man in gold but in broken teeth for speaking to himself and the ladies in such a manner.

He watches the man with a long hostile stare before turning back to the barmaid and waits patiently for her to say her peace. He hrms at her response and asks, "How long has it been since he has been here?"

The barkeep seemed slightly taken aback by his customers' reactions, but he wouldn't argue with gold, or risk provoking such clearly skilled folk. With a last baleful gaze at no one in particular, he scooped up the coins and returned to a place further down the bar.

The barmaid waited until her heart rate slowed to normal before continuing. "The last time was five days ago. He pops in about once a week, looking for out-of-towners to hire."

Brest quirks an eyebrow at the news and glances over at Silvia. He says nothing more for the moment content to let her do the talking for the moment.

At Brest's glance, Silvia raised her own brow. She couldn't think of much else to ask the girl off the top of her head, it was Brest's quest after all. However, a question did pop into her head as she wracked her brain for a thought. "Have you overheard anything about where this Wade fellow might work? Docks, warehouses, markets, any guilds?" the half-elf asked, though it might have been a long shot.

The barmaid looked slightly suprised by the question. "Well, he's one of the Rayston family. They own a couple legit businesses, along with the shadier things they do. I think Wade's taken over Azune Storages, now that his brother's taken ill."

The barkeep threw a brief glare in the direction of the conversation, but he kept quiet, appearantly satisfied with his gold.
