As a young boy he watched his father, one of the Holy Knights of Valis, march off with Fahn to meet Beld in the War of Heroes. His father, though wounded, returned home safely, with great tales about the war and the heroes in it. This only fueled his desire to become a knight. As a Squire he heard stories and ballads of Parn the Free knight and Kashue Mercenary King; how they fought the Demon Dragon Shooting Star, and about Ashram's duel with Kashue. At this time he yearned to become a great knight like them, to have his name spoken in stories. It was one year before Raster aligned himself with the Marmo that Ardyn finally realized his dream and became a Holy Knight. It was when King Etoh declared war on the Marmo that Ardyn got his first real taste of war. He and many other young knights eager for glory when to the front lines. There his brash youth and inexperience caught up with him. As Marmo forces were withdrawing Ardyn led a small squad of young knights much like himself. Ardyn's commander ordered them to return to their camp. Ardyn was headstrong, and didn't listen. He believed he could cut the Marmo soldiers off before they regrouped with their main division and take them hostage. The squad of young knights attacked the fleeing Marmo, and were caught in a trap. One was killed and a few in his squad were captured. Ardyn and his remaining squad escaped. Ardyn felt completely responsible for what happened. Again going against orders to right the wrong, Ardyn left, and under the cover of night he managed to free his comrades that were captured. But because of his actions the Commander stripped him of the title, stripping the emblem of the holy knights from his armor. Ardyn accepted his punishment, but never returned home. He would rather his parents believe him to be dead than return to them in disgrace. He became a mercenary, and continued to fight the Marmo. After the war Ardyn continued as a mercenary doing small jobs to support himself. The dream of becoming a great hero has left Ardyn but he would still fight to protect Lodoss and its people. Ardyn was once on a mercenary expediton with Luda, the priestess of Myrii, and several others. There were holy knights in this group, so he did not give her his name at that time, thinking they might recognize him. Ardyn developed a great admiration for Luda (not particularly in a romantic sense) on that mission and still remembered her two years later when he ran into Zira’s group. He recognized Luda and decided to join them. Ardyn and Luda formed a relationship very much like a knight and lady. Ardyn admired and protected Luda to the death. He was killed by a Yoroi soldier in the battle of Raiden while protecting her when her spells failed. In the end, Ardyn became the knight that he always wanted to be. Personality: Despite what's happened to him Ardyn, keeps his head up. He's strong willed, though quiet around most people. He can be found usually leaning against some wall, quietly watching everyone else. He is easy going around his friends, but very few people know him at all, much less consider him a friend. He does not believe in giving up on life, and always looks for a better way to do things. He is level-headed when it comes to battle compared to most, but sometimes his emotions get the better of him. Since he lost his knighthood, his life has lacked some kind of meaning. Defending Luda seems to restore that for him. Alignment: Neutral Good Quotes:
