Revised Character Application
  • Name: Eliamn
    Name Pronunciation: E-li-amn
    Age: 125
    Birth year: NRC 405
    Gender: Female
    Race: Common Elf
    Homeland: Mirror Forest

    Physical Description:
    • Eliamn (or just "Eli") is slight, delicate and fine boned. Her hair is like cascading honey, spilling down her back to her waist and she has large almond-shaped violet eyes. Though not well endowed, she possesses the alien ethereal beauty of elvenkind in no small measure and is actually quite alluring in her own, vulnerable way. Her demeanor is graceful and her voice like a clear stream rippling among trees.
    Clothing and Armor:
    • The elfmaid prefers donning her customary Keeper garment, lightly-frilled cream colored robes adorned with embroidery elves so love adorning their garments with. She uses soft-leather wraps tied in about her lower legs as supple footwear. The only jewelry she wears are three pairs of jade earrings.
    Weapon:
    • While Eliamn is not armed, she can use Alabern's staff as a servicable club.
    Height: 5'4”
    Weight: 105 lbs
    Build: Wispy
    Hair Color: Honey Blonde
    Eye Color: Violet
    Skin Tone: Fair

    Class: Shaman
    Occupation: Keeper Dawnsinger
    Weapons: Alabern's Staff
    Armor: None
Non-Magic Items: Worn (Keeper Dawnsinger robes, belt sash, footwraps, jade earrings); Backpack (contains extra clothing, leafwrapped elven waybread rations, blanket, traveling cloak w/ silver unicorn brooch, soap, hairbrush), eating knife, small herb pouch, waterskin.
    Horse: No
    Familiar: Alabern's Unicorn

    Magic System: Shamanism
    Level: 7
    Magic Items: Alabern's Staff
    Enchantments: None
Skills: Animal Empathy, Concentration, Education, Etiquette, Expert (Herbalist), Language (Elven, Common, Centaurian), Perception, Local Expert (Mirror Forest, Spirit Realm), Lore, Singing, Summoning

    Shamanist Proficiencies:
    • Eli's close contact with the Mirror Forest's ancient tree for the last couple of decades makes her especially well attuned to contacting nature spirits. In fact, her close bond with the spirit world makes her much more knowledgeable about how to call and bond with most elemental spirits. Her link to growing things makes her particularly proficient with Light, Water and Earth elemental summons. She is adequate with Air and Fire summons, though many elves disdain the latter.

Contrary to other elven shamans, Eliamn does have some knowledge about how to contact dark spirits, though it's more of an academic curiosity to her than any approbation over their use. All, in all, her shamanistic abilities are well-rounded and above average compared to other elves her age… She doesn't dabble in spirit summon: she's a specialist.
    Enchantments and Items:
    • Alabern's Staff:This weathered oak rod is three-and-a-half feet long, sporting an array of colorful feathers for decoration atop the shaft with ends in a gnarled knot - the knot hold a singular blue opal at it's center.

The staff's history dates as far as the War of the Gods, where elvenkind first saw it's rise and did not know any division. It's was enspelled by Eliamn's ancestor, Alabern, to summon forth a unicorn guardian. Eliamn now commands it's power. The staff's summoning power is empathic - the unicorn comes when commanded or when it feels it's bearer is in immediate danger and in need of it's protection.
    Abilities:
    • Eliamn, while lacking in skill toward fencing and archery, has had a rather deep education as one of the Ancient Tree's tender. She is well versed in spirit lore and in the origins of the mother tree - and her close experience with the tree's spiritual energy (and it's gate leading to the spirit world) has led her to have far better control over spirits than the average elf. She also is very well versed in herbal lore and has in innate knack in understanding animals.
    History:
    • Eliamn is the eldest child of the Elder, the head of the Keepers of the Ancient Tree. Her family has, ever since the end of the war of the gods, appointed themselves as caretaker of the Ancient Tree in the Mirror Forest. Her order tend daily the ancient tree with morning and evening songs, tending to any small affliction it might have and otherwise making sure of it's well being - as close to an honor guard as a tree would ever get.

Eli has two younger brothers, Featarel and Kanil, but she is firstborn and heir to lead the family. As heiress to being the family Elder, she has received a very thorough upbringing since her birth, being literally weaned for her post. She spent most of her life learning about elven history, honing her shamanistic abilities and tending the tree.

Her life took a drastic turn when she reached her 125th spring. The Keepers generally being amongst the strongest shamans in the Mirror Forest, it was tradition for the heir to bond with a King Spirit on the spring of his or her 125th year - as set by the first Keeper, Balenthel-son of Alabern. Eli entered the spirit world through the ancient tree and challenged Ento to make a contract.

It turned out as a disaster. Ento sensed a weakness in the elfmaid's heart and refused to even test her. Feeling that she had no other recourse but to succeed, Eliamn tried to force him into a contract. The outcome was inevitable - while she was strong and especially well attuned to Ento's realm, Eliamn was still no match in spell battle to a King Spirit and she would have been consumed by the spirit realm had her unicorn familiar not have timely intervened. However, her miraculous survival brought little solace as she was the first heir to actually fail to bond with a king spirit by 125.

Deeply shamed by her failure and unable to face down her family she decided to go on a journey outside of the forest to hone her abilities while trying to figure out why Ento had refused her in the first place. The impetus of her self-exile came when she heard about Naclia and Aiden leaving for their on a journey of their own - an opportunity to get away from home that Eliamn couldn't afford missing. She tagged along.
    Personality:
    • Eliamn grew up as a somewhat spoiled girl, unused to danger and untouched by hardship. Her family considering itself like aristocracy, she cultivated a prideful and haughty demeanor - but this hides the tumult in her soul.

Her mind is rife with self-doubts. Her pride is in constant conflict with a startling lack of volition and ambition - she became what her father wanted her to be - his heir - but never quite found out who she wanted to be. She does have great inner strength, a fact confirmed by her considerable shamanistic powers… but until her inner self blooms she will never be her own person.
    Alignment:
    • Chaotic Good
    Quotes:
    • "Friend Sylph, I bid thy aid. Help me join with the west wind and, reborn anew, guide me to companions I must find." ~ Eliamn's 'Air Walk' spirit ritual
    • STAT BLOCK
      Strength: 7
      Endurance: 8
      Agility: 14
      Intelligence: 18
      Luck: 10
      Physical Beauty: 17

Spending an extended amount of time in the spirit realm subtly changed Eliamn over the decades, making her a little more like the fae she lived with. She has a +1 bonus to Agility and Physical Beauty.

I've been trying to dwell on this, and, after all this time, I think I'm going to admit I'm at a bit of a loss. The War of the Demon King was a significant event for Mirror Forest Common Elves and yet it went completely ignored when I first thought up of Eliamn.

I'm not sure how to insert it. I don't want it to be significant to Eliamn (at least not as much as it is to Naclia) and yet it cannot help but be if it's taken in consideration. I understand, however, that the Tree's Keepers were probably viewed as more ceremonial than anything else; the war would likely have dispelled any notion of of that, making so that Eliamn might be a slightly more dependable in combat than I originally though she would be since the added pressure given by the war would have surely prompted the appropriate training for her.

As for what Eliamn did in the war itself? Like I said, no idea. I'm tempted to have her have being not there at all, though that'd be contrary to my initial perception of Eli never leaving her home (I suppose she learned centaurian at home).

Another thing I've been pondering over was any tie ins between Eliamn and Seri. Seri was out and about teaching shamanism in the Mirror Forest at some point in Eli's life and I'm curious of how it could have affected my character (around 3 decades and with her mental stats, Eli looks to me like something of a child prodigy; I doubt she'd have escaped notice).

Ok, Eliamn could have been evacuated when the attack and maybe taken to the Glassy Woods by her mother through a route through the Wildlands, avoiding human civilizations, while her father stayed behind to try and cure the forest. Travel shouldn't have taken more than a day or two. She spent a couple years in the Glassy Woods and learned Centaurian, then came home when the forest was livable.

And she certainly could have learned from Seri too.

One more thing, I need an actual description of her staff for the Weapon field.
Weapon Description:
While Eliamn is not armed, she can use Alabern's staff as a servicable club.
*Edit*
Nevermind, I found it...

*growls* After several cases of trying, I'm going to admit complete and utter defeat.

Jessica, I need help. I agree to your suggestion to what Eliamn would have experienced in the War of the Demon King, but I cannot seem to be able to integrate it right, or to be able to rewrite it properly. I rather astounded by my inability to write something that looks decent, actually.

I know this entry was due to being added on the sit a while ago and I wanted to complete it so you could just get on with it - but I just can't do it. I feel bad about asking this, but can you give it a rewrite like you did for Aiden and Naclia? I tried myself, but everything I tried is just not coming out right >_<

On the issue of horseback riding, though she is learning, Eli is not an accomplished rider and I believe she would either ride only on Tiash since it's the only elven horse of the lot she would feel confident enough on her own to ride; or ride double with someone else.

Alright, we never did quite get around to finishing this, but I'm about to transfer her page over and I'd like to get everything up to date.

I believe you mentioned before that you wanted to drop the unicorn familiar. Do you still want to do that?

As for her experiences during the War of the Demon King, have you been able to come up with something for her? I think, possibly, she could be the daughter of this guy: http://gallery.eiyuukishiden.com/displa ... pos=-13171 (the elder elf with the dorky hair cut :P). I considered that maybe her mother could have used the wind walk ritual to whisk her and her children away to the Glassy Woods when the attack began, but they also could have been evacuated during the attack. Either that, or perhaps a convenient visit to the Glassy Woods before the attack, traveling along back roads through the Wildlands--or perhaps just Eliamn and her mother using the wind walk, or perhaps traveling through the spirit world by entering Ento's realm through the ancient tree, then exiting through the Glassy Wood's ancient tree.

Oookay. I had actually been planning to give Eli a huge bio overhaul by the end of Golden Egg (since I figured the Age of Valor campaign wouldn't be over then), but I figure now works too.
Z wrote:I believe you mentioned before that you wanted to drop the unicorn familiar. Do you still want to do that?
Yes, quite definitely. Eliamn went from D&D character whom could not be and then became a Lineage 2 Elemental Summoner and finally transited to being an EKD character (which is really where I think the 'Eliamn' character as concepted came into her own). The unicorn familiar was really a rip off from the Lineage 2 iteration and I really don't think she needs it to be cool - not when she's everybit as capable as Jiba to throw around Earth Claws.

So, yeah, I think it needs to be taken out. Retroactively too, since there are a few mention here and there in the archives. I guess I can point them out to you eventually once you're not swamped with other stuff.

Nothing very concrete, though I've never really bothered to read the best source of reference for it - the Lady of Pharis manga.

Aside from that, the dorky haired elder elf totally works for being her father! I think, seeing that Eliamn has little knowledge of what lied beyond the Mirror Forest or little worldliness as a traveler, that she probably was magically evacuated there along with her mother before the fighting broke out. So go the perks and cons of being spoiled silly.

Go ahead and find them for me whenever you like. It'll be easy enough to find them once I know where they are.
