Wall of Shame: Elana Vira (2008)

I am only posting the history. Originally, I would have posted the original application as she listed traits for her physical description and clothing (obviously, she hadn't ready any rules or looked at any other applications). If you would like to see the entire thread and an in depth review by the moderators, you may read the application thread here.

History: Born in a small farming village to an average family, who were then killed in a fire caused by a storm, leaving just her and her father. She spent much of her child-hood either running loose in the hills around the village; or at the feet of the village priest of Rada, learning.

When she was twelve, her father died and she took off rather than become a servant or marry the old pervert who wanted her. She ended up journeying till she found refuge in an old forest, a band of outlaws found her covered in dirt, and shivering in a small cave. Due the dirt they didn't realize she was female and took her in. She kept up the disguise of being male, until she became proficient with the knife they gave her, afterwards she stayed on her gaurd until the outlaws accepted her, and knew not to try anything. She practiced her stealth, by sneaking up on the wild animals of the forestm until she could eventually run through the forest without a sound. Then she taught herself to climb the trees, clambering easily along the treetops.

Four years, she lived among them, until bounty hunters came, killing all but one besides her. she traveled with the one left to a city, where he introduced into the the theives guild, apprenticing her out. She learned rapidly soon becoming well-known for getting the things that were deemed 'impossible'. By the time she was 18 she was a full-fledged theif, and was making her way up the ranks, she was introduced to the another set of business, her stealth and ability to disguise herself already well-know, she became part of the 'information network.

By 20, she was one of the heads of the 'information' network, and had several theif organizations running under her. She also stole the immovable brace on her left arm, that allows her to see magical protection spells on the items she intends to steal. Because of her skills and her protective nature toward those under her, her underlings took to calling her 'Queen of Rogues'.

At 23, she 'rescued' a small white fox from an animal seller and taught it all sorts of clever things, like how to fetch and hide and climb...She had organizations and contacts in several cities, however her success was making the Thieves Guild head people nervous. Despite the fact that she had no interest in taking them over, they set her up, using her own protective nature against her. She however used their plan against them, she was getting tired of always being on top...She hardly even got to do any theiving, anymore. She helped the underling they had used as bait to escape...then let herself be caught. She was sentenced and placed on a prison/slavery ship for transport. She escaped during a storm, thanks in part to the fox who had snuck on board and brought her the keys to her manacles, but got knocked unconscious by some barrels that had gotten loose and washed overboard. Still unconscious, she washes up on the beach of Marmo, her wrists and ankles still red from the chains she had worn. The white fox having jumped ship and swam to shore, curled up next to her.

20 years old and the 'Queen of Rogues', and she wasn't even brought up around the Thieves' Guild. Wow.

Mana Link's reaction to this application:

*ahem*
Dear Mary-Sue, we apologize for the rudeness of this response but we wish to be quite frank. There is no way in the 19 hells from which many Mary-Sues have been spawned that someone such as a 20 year old "Queen of Rogues" would feasibly have been created lest they be born from a mafiosa family and the like. As such, even then, at 20, they would not be in a position to control vast amounts of power within the underworld, especially when there are more charismatic, more intelligent and far more cunning people than your character. Not only that, but the underworld is a cruel and dark place. For someone of a Chaotic Neutral alignment to become the "Queen" that would be a nearsighted and impossible task. It would take someone of either Chaotic or Neutral Evil to have the rogue nation bow at their feet, as well as many years of making a name for him/herself. I know this because I'm currently the world leader of all evil beings. This being said, I'd like you to keep this secret between you and I, for if the authorities found out that the root of all evil was an RPG nut, the world would go up in flames.

Sincerely,
the Evil GM.

Anyway, I had to post up Mana Link's rant on this application to the Bad RPers Suck community on LiveJournal, per his request, and from his description of the character, several people commented on the fact that her history sounded dreadfully close to the plots of many a Tamora Pierce novel. To quote Alera Tai'var, "Shit son, we snuffed a hack!"
